Heterocide, Lestushka at Hooktorture
in Chicago, Milwaukee Ave near Division
May 11, 1996
What do mothers really want for mothers day? (hint: smells like going out of town for stoner party weekend to see friends in chicago.)
Hook Torture Gallery hosted a homocore night for Straight to Hell magazine. The brilliant (ok he's my friend but he's still brilliant) Andy Soma was supposed to MC but sadly he cut his finger before the show. Sexyhot Lestushka improvised a sweet song called "Straight to Hell" to kick off the evening. She confided in me afterwards that she had invited several musician friends to show up and play with her, "but you know musicians, they like to play something at least 5 times before they do it on stage." Then it was time for heteroocide, to keep the true spirit of punk alive. They were fast and loud mostly, sometimes femmy folky, trading instruments, and taking turns singing. They exlemplified the best of the idea of the collective, where contrary impulses don't get homogoenized, letting individual energies come through.
end note: this event was free, with donations for beer. I only had a twenty and somehow reaching in the fishbowl to make change only occurred to me later'duh' I'll make it up to you next time, I promise, only please don't close before I can or I'll feel guilty forever.
