We went to see Rancid which was a bust, (no fault of their own) we sort of missed the show. Then headed down to the East Village for some extra fun. We got a baby sitter and all that, no sense to waste it. So we went to this cool dive Nightingales. As we entered my heart filled with absolute
joy. A grim hard/fast/5 piece band was blasting from the stage. $5 bucks and wham we're in. Seat at the bar, maybe 15 people in the place. These guys are from Minneapolis and they had something good going on. The rock was hardcore and driving, screaming vocals, some of the music had a nice
amount of complexity at its core. The drummer was very good with this Mitch Mitchell type fill-at-all-times type style. Kept a good pace. The 2 guitarists had a nice rapport, seemed like they knew what they were doing. No Ballads, just rock. [BdeV 3/29/96]

So I already had the material, I just needed to whip up a dress and style the wig, catching a cab in the rain was more difficult. Fleshdrive, the first time I ever wore earplugs. I love nightingales. A heavy sigh from the bartendress on the stool beside me, "Why do all the straight men look alike." Watch out the van dyke backlash has arrived. Although I must admit the idea of all those boy's evil twins running around is appealing. I thought the singer was sexy all shaved muscular and masculine. And they played the kind of hardcore I like, the not metal hardcore. There were so few people in the bar the space felt choreographed. Scene 2 started when these 3 FUN girls came in and fired up a fatty, and they shared! When we left someone whispered to me "Oh com'on I just got here," but I was too shy to look up, sigh. [NM 6/4/96]
