Lou Reed, "Set the Twilight Reeling"
Warner Bros, released: 1996, Album
A new record by Lou Read. Not just something to take with you when you have to go number 2. It's really good music or it can be really bad music. But there is a certain ammount of style that accompanies a release by this man that I'm waiting for . . . . Happy with the latest. This collecetion of tunes is about as good as it gets. Lou Reed always does something to surprise me. Like write good songs. One reason for this call to arms for me is that I've been reading a certain ammount of critisism of Lou Reed going soft on this album. "We want illegal drug songs, not egg cream songs". Well from what I've heard he was never really into heroin in the first place. But this egg cream song comes from the voice of a true addict. I say it's his finest song to date this side of "Sweet Jane". The concepts of death and distruction are not really featured here, it's a lot more introspective. The past the future. Sort of has an autobiographical feel to it. I have liked the last two albums previous to this very much ("New York", and "Magic and Loss"). To me this one goes beyond, more hits per pound.
